NFL Free Agency: Eric Decker signs with Titans on one year deal.

June 18th, 2017

According to multiple news sources, Eric Decker has left New York for the Tennessee Titans. Immediately bringing up questions in the fantasy football community on how the trio will be used for 2017. An offense with the fourth most rushing attempts in 2016, it’s important to project whether Rishard Matthews or Corey Davis will be the odd man out of the receiver rotation.

First, I think we should be realistic here and consider this to be a legitimate red flag for top draft pick Corey Davis. Remember, Tennessee’s first round pick is still recovering from off-season ankle surgery and is the same injury that pre-maturely ended his collegiate career. Along with Decker providing injury insurance. Head coach Mike Mularky will certainly want Decker to mentor the young receiver as well.

However, I don’t necessarily believe he’s the odd man out in their receiver rotation. That title more than likely will reside with Rishard Matthews. He unfortunately, has to compete with a rookie as electrifying as they come in Davis and everyone wants to see what this kid can do on Sundays.

Fantasy Outlook:

Obviously, we must let this play out to see where it goes but I think this puts a dent in Davis’ fantasy stock in re-draft formats and leagues with minimal keeper settings.

Nothing changes for me in Dynasty formats, as his long-term upside is still the highest of any other player in this draft class. Although owners who are considering using their first-round pick on him will need to be patient with his progression in this offense.
